Community Center
The CFP Arts, Wellness and Community Center is the neighborhood treasure and sits in the literal and figurative heart of the community. Residents feel real ownership of the “Community Hall” which has been in existence since 1922. Fantastic stories swirl around it, recounting parties and social dances at the Hall over the years, the big fire that burned it to the ground in the sixties, followed by the old fashioned “barn-raising” where the neighborhood came together to rebuild. And, now, fifty years later, the Hall has undergone a nearly million-dollar transformation into a modern, ADA compliant, beautiful space of which all of Portsmouth can be proud. Many organizations, mostly non-profits, are anchor tenants at CFP, sharing the space and working together to expand the impact of their organizations through a unique collaboration.
