President

The president is the leader of the association and is responsible for overseeing the association’s activities and ensuring that the association’s goals are met. The president has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Set the association’s direction and goals. The president works with the board of directors to set the association’s direction and goals. This includes developing a strategic plan, setting budgets, and allocating resources.
  • Oversee the association’s operations. The president is responsible for overseeing the association’s day-to-day operations. This includes managing staff, overseeing the association’s finances, and ensuring that the association complies with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Represent the association to the community. The president is the public face of the association and is responsible for representing the association to the community. This includes attending community meetings, speaking to the media, and responding to resident concerns.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders. The president is responsible for building relationships with stakeholders, such as residents, businesses, and government officials. This is important for ensuring that the association has the support it needs to succeed.
  • Resolve conflicts. The president is responsible for resolving conflicts between residents and between residents and the association. This is an important part of maintaining a positive and productive community.
  • Motivate and inspire others. The president is responsible for motivating and inspiring others to work together to achieve the association’s goals. This is an important part of creating a strong and vibrant community.

The president of a neighborhood association is a volunteer position that requires a significant time commitment. The president should be someone who is passionate about their community and is willing to work hard to make it a better place.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a budget and develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Commitment to the association’s mission and goals.

Vice President

The Vice President assists the President with developing and implementing the association’s strategic plan, and to ensure that the association is meeting its goals and objectives. The Vice President also plays a key role in fundraising, marketing, and public relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the President to oversee day-to-day operations of the association
  • Develop and implement the association’s strategic plan
  • Ensure that the association is meeting its goals and objectives
  • Play a key role in fundraising, marketing, and public relations
  • Represent the association to the public and to other stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with donors, funders, and other partners
  • Reviews the association’s budget
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for the financial management of the association, including budgeting, accounting, and investing. The Treasurer works closely with the Executive Board and other staff to ensure that the association’s finances are sound and that its financial goals are met. As an Officer of the non-profit corporation, the position of Treasurer receives no compensation.

The Treasurer may also act as the Fiscal Agent for related non-profit organizations that receive federal and state grants through CFPIA. In this role the Treasurer is required to file the appropriate spending reports to the Federal or State Agency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the association’s annual budget
  • Track and analyze financial performance
  • Prepare financial reports for the board of directors
  • Oversee the association’s accounting system
  • Invest the association’s funds
  • Administer the association’s grant programs
  • Comply with all applicable financial laws and regulations

Optional Qualifications:

  • CPA designation
  • Experience with nonprofit grant management
  • Experience with nonprofit investment management

Secretary

The secretary plays an important role in ensuring that the association is run smoothly and efficiently.  Some specific responsibilities are:

  • Keeping the association’s records and minutes
  • Distributing meeting materials
  • Communicating with members and the board
  • Helping to maintain the association’s website
  • Answering member questions
  • Assisting with special projects

    Qualifications for this role include:

    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Strong communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Experience with website

    At Large Members

    The At-Large Board Member is responsible for representing the interests of the entire community, and for working with the other Board Members to ensure that the association is managed effectively and efficiently.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Attend all Board meetings and participate in discussions and decision-making.
    • Represent the interests of the entire community to the Board of Directors.
    • Work with the other Board Members to develop and implement events, policies and procedures that benefit the community.
    • Communicate with community members about association activities and events.
    • Handle special projects as assigned by the Board of Directors.
